World Class Gymnastics Returns to Glasgow!
This weekend some of the best gymnasts in the world will compete in the UK once again, at the Emirates arena in Glasgow. The competition will be the 2nd of 3 events in the 2016 World Cup series, which began last weekend with the American Cup (where Amy Tinkler came 4th!) and will end next weekend with the Stuttgart Cup.
World Cup series competitions have been held in Glasgow many times before; I was lucky enough to be able to participate in 2011 series where I won a bronze medal on Floor. Following another notable major gymnastics event held in the UK in 2012 (ahem Olympics ahem), the World cup series returned to Glasgow the following December, and then again in Dec 2013 and Dec 2014.
Then, just last year, the World Championships and Olympic qualifiers were held in Glasgow from 23 October- 1 Nov 2015 and it became clear that the UK, especially Glasgow, has become a favourite location for major gymnastics events. This is great news for all British gymnastics fans and I hope this trend continues!
The women who will be competing in Glasgow this Saturday 12th March are:
Claudia Fragapane (GBR)
Our 4-time Commonwealth Gold Medallist and member of the record-breaking 2015 World Championship team, from Bristol.

The World Cup series is one of the last chances to see an international preview of what this summer’s Olympic showdown could be like, and it will certainly be an exciting event. This is an incredible line up of talent, with a variety of powerful and balletic gymnasts who each have a good chance of being there in Rio to represent their country.
If you’re a local definitely don’t miss out on the opportunity to see this! To buy tickets and for more information see the Glasgow Life website here
